The Homestead at Ballandean Lodge – Your Winter Escape amongst the Vines

Our great friends Lisa and Jeremy have recently opened their Homestead at Ballandean Lodge.  After a year or so of extensive renovations, the Homestead is the ideal country getaway.  And yes, we do know that it is a 3.5 hour drive from La Petit Unite – and in the beautiful Stanthorpe wine region (Queensland), but we love to show our subscribers other options for great holidays.  Ideal for families and friends, we love the homestead!  We’ve also included a great list of things to do and see locally, so have a read and be inspired!

Husk Farm Distillery, Tumbulgum

Husk Farm Distillery in Tumbulgum started with humble roots with its first harvest in 2012.  12 years down the track, the Husk Farm Distillery is one of the best – award winning – destinations in the Tweed!

Driving into the Distillery, you are immediately welcomed by the first still which sits proudly at the entrance.  Staff greet you with a smile and take you to your table where you are able to select from their menu – not just the cocktails and tastings, but a great food selection as well.  Bookings are of course recommended as this is a popular local destination.

Winter is best at the beach!

Notwithstanding that we also love the Homestead at Ballandean Lodge, it is possibly a little unusual that our favourite time of year in Casuarina is actually winter!  Warm sunny days, cool nights and plenty of opportunities to take advantage of the quiet times around us (less people and traffic!).  To tempt you, this blog gives you two great walks/cycles to do from La Petit Unite:

  • Walk 1: Casuarina to Salt Village
  • Walk 2: Casuarina to Cabarita Beach (and Norries Headland)

The above suggestions does not include everything that is available at Salt Village, Ocean Avenue and Cabarita Beach, but the ones I have personally been to!
