Byron and Beyond by Elizabeth Meryment – Weekend Australian May 4-5, 2024

The Weekend Australian Magazine (May 4-5 2024), included this fantastic article by Elizabeth Meryment.  We have split it into three parts (as it was very long), the commentary, Restaurants Part 1 and Restaurants Part 2.

View the full article here: Why the NSW Northern Rivers is Australia’s new food capital | The Australian, or if you are not a subscriber to the Australian, we have our version  – the commentary (with our comments) available below:

Byron and Beyond – the Restaurants Part 1

The article by Elizabeth Meryment (the Weekend Australian, May 4-5 2024), included a review of a number of local restaurants.  This is the first part of the review, where the following local restaurants were included (links here are to the restaurants’ websites):

Byron and Beyond – The Restaurants Part 2

This is the third (and final) part of this great Byron and Beyond article by Elizabeth Meryment and includes a further group of great restaurants and cafes to visit locally (again, the links are to the actual websites of the restaurants):

If we hadn’t convinced you to come visit us through Elizabeth Meryment’s article, Craig Tansley from the Daily Telegraph (Lifestyle Section) penned this cracker of a read. You can view the original article here, but our version (with comments) is available via the link below:

The Homestead at Ballandean Lodge – Your Winter Escape amongst the Vines

Photo: The Homestead, Ballandean Lodge

Our great friends Lisa and Jeremy have recently opened their Homestead at Ballandean Lodge.  After a year or so of extensive renovations, the Homestead is the ideal country getaway.  And yes, we do know that it is a 3.5 hour drive from La Petit Unite – and in the beautiful Stanthorpe wine region (Queensland), but we love to show our subscribers other options for great holidays.  Ideal for families and friends, we love the homestead!  We’ve also included a great list of things to do and see locally, so have a read and be inspired!

Husk Farm Distillery, Tumbulgum

Husk Farm Distillery in Tumbulgum started with humble roots with its first harvest in 2012.  12 years down the track, the Husk Farm Distillery is one of the best – award winning – destinations in the Tweed!

Driving into the Distillery, you are immediately welcomed by the first still which sits proudly at the entrance.  Staff greet you with a smile and take you to your table where you are able to select from their menu – not just the cocktails and tastings, but a great food selection as well.  Bookings are of course recommended as this is a popular local destination.

Winter is best at the beach!

Notwithstanding that we also love the Homestead at Ballandean Lodge, it is possibly a little unusual that our favourite time of year in Casuarina is actually winter!  Warm sunny days, cool nights and plenty of opportunities to take advantage of the quiet times around us (less people and traffic!).  To tempt you, this blog gives you two great walks/cycles to do from La Petit Unite:

  • Walk 1: Casuarina to Salt Village
  • Walk 2: Casuarina to Cabarita Beach (and Norries Headland)

The above suggestions does not include everything that is available at Salt Village, Ocean Avenue and Cabarita Beach, but the ones I have personally been to!

A La Petit Unite Gift for the next 20 bookings

At La Petit Unite, we like to really think about our guests needs.

We know that it is often the little things people forget when they travel, so we have made our own, branded tote bag, note pad, pen and postcard.

And for our next 20 guests, they will also receive a beautiful La Petit Unite scented candle!  The Montego scent boasts the invigorating tropical scent of lemon and lime with warm vanilla and amber on a lush base of coconut mandarin and sweet orange. Perfect for complimenting your romantic beach getaway.  Please take it with you.
