The Homestead at Ballandean Lodge – Your Winter Escape amongst the Vines

Our great friends Lisa and Jeremy have recently opened their Homestead at Ballandean Lodge. After a year or so of extensive renovations and landscaping, Ballandean Homestead is the ideal country getaway. Catering for up to 8 couples (each with their own bedroom and ensuite), it is that perfect friend/family getaway. Here’s what Wendy has to say:

“This property is wow! Such a beautiful house in an awesome location, right in the heart of the wine country. Absolutely everything you need is there, the amount of staples provided was amazing. Every bedroom has it’s own ensuite which is a must in a large group. We spent so much time around the fire/pizza oven and all wood was provided, not just the first night supply. So many different spots to sit and admire the fantastic view. Lisa was so easy to deal with and made the whole stay seamless.”

But, you ask, why are we at La Petit Unite promoting our friend’s properties? Well, we are firm believers in supporting other businesses. When we personally know the owners (like we do Lisa and Jeremy), if we can offer more than one option to our La Petit Unite guests (albeit in Queensland rather than NSW), we are on it!

And of course, we have stayed their ourselves, so the recommendations are genuine.

Your probable second question – what has been happening at the Homestead? Lots! While the olive trees were not as fruitful this year, that doesn’t mean they don’t need some tender loving care. The gardens are a work in progress and the expectation is that the spring flowers will be blooming this year.

And you say, what do we like to do when at the Homestead?:

Wander amongst the trees in the olive grove;
Pick up some fresh pastries and artisan breads from Zest Pastries;
Sundowner G&T (from Bent Road Distillery) on the deck overlooking the Sundown National Park;
Touring some of the local Granite Belt wineries (there are multiple!);
Lunch at the award winning Balancing Heart Vineyard;
Cooking in the stone clad pizza oven (wood supplied);
Sitting by the warm fire in the living room with a cheeky Girraween Estate Shiraz and local cheeses from Stanthorpe Cheese;
Star gaze under the clearest skies we have ever seen.

Mmmm… am thinking we need to stay a week not a weekend! So much to do. Even better you can time your visits (be quick to book though!) with special events like the Stanthorpe Races, Gravel n Granite or even the Stanthorpe Show. Local Markets are held on the 2nd Sunday of the Month and the 4th Sunday of the Month.

So while the Homestead at Ballandean Lodge is a 3.5 hour drive from La Petit Unite, we can certainly recommend a stay – and encourage you and your family to enjoy this touch of paradise.
